The institute is located in Pune. Pune is widely considered the cultural capital of Maharashtra. Pune has several reputed colleges and other educational institutions. For this reason it has often been called the 'Oxford of the East'. The Mumbai-Pune Knowledge Corridor, which houses many large IT companies, is now fast emerging as the IT hub of the country. It has a very strong presence in the automobile sector and is on its way to consolidate its position as the 'Detroit of India' too.Tata Motors, other global automotive multinationals have their manufacturing plants in and around Pune. Fiat, M & M, GM, Volkswagen, Daimler Benz, Skoda, Audi and John Deere are some of the companies. There are about 11 domestic and multinational companies which make two, three and four wheelers including buses, tractors, LCVs and trucks. Recently Volkswagen and Fiat have announced additional investment in Pune to the tune of about Rs. 3000 crore. In addition, the city boasts of an impressive SME population There are approximately 12,500 industrial units which employ more than 842,700 people in the Pune industrial belt. More than 4,500 units are directly or indirectly dependent on the automobile and auto components sector. These units together contribute to nearly 60% of the total turnover of Pune which is about Rs. 30,000 crores. (Source - MCCIA report) The Pune auto component cluster has been of such great significance that the government recently identified it among 19 industrial clusters under the Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation. Maharashtra government, in order to speed up foreign investment in the region, has decided to construct a six-lane highway to connect Talegaon, Chakan and Ranjangaon with Pune to improve the infrastructural facilities. With the kind of investment that the auto industry in Pune is still getting from domestic as well as global players, it is quite obvious that Pune will see the creation of thousands of job opportunities in the engineering sector and will become one of the major global destination for employment. |

In a recent report published by UK-India Business Council, Pune has been stated as being the best among emerging cities in India for investment by UK firms. The report further states that Pune attracted 20 per cent of the total industrial investment in the country, and accounted for £ 1,411 million in IT exports, the highest for a single city. |
